Missoula College
invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor of
Culinary Arts
as the Director of the Big Sky Culinary Institute, which includes the Culinary Arts Program, the Blackfoot Café, and Iris Coffee. The Culinary Program at Missoula College is accredited by the America Culinary Federation. The Program Director has teaching responsibilities and will administer overall operations for the Big Sky Culinary Institute.
The successful candidate will have experience and education equal to the standards of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) as a Culinary Educator, Master Chef, Executive Chef, or Chef de Cuisine and a minimum AAS degree from a reputable Culinary Arts program, preferably an ACF accredited program. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred and teaching experience at the post-secondary level is desirable.
National Restaurant Association Education foundation ServSafe certification will be required within six (6) months of employment. Additionally, education and skills equal to the level of Certified Chef De Cuisine (CCC) within one (1) year of employment is expected.
The Program Director’s responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
Implementing the program mission, goals, and objectives into the curriculum.
Providing that the kitchen/laboratory facilities maintain safe, sanitary, and organized conditions.
Working in tandem with the Restaurant Manager.
Dressing appropriately in accordance with the Missoula College’s Culinary Arts Program’s Standard Personal Hygiene and Dress Code, and expecting that students do the same.
Ensuring that units of instruction follow the syllabi which clearly state measurable objectives, student activities, learning resources, time allotment, grading criteria, and student evaluation methods.
Clearly outlining the skill competencies that are to be measured and demonstrated by students.
Maintaining ACF certification.
Required Qualifications
At least six (6) years working in the food service industry, and/or at least three (3) years in food service management.
Formal education in culinary management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff.
Ability to work and solve problems collaboratively and maintain a sense of cordiality within the work place.
Exceptional organizational skills.
